This page is to dedicated to the books I am reading presently. I used to be a voracious reader. I read everything when I was young, Judy Blume books, trashy romance novels, American fiction, non-fiction, historical fiction, historical books, classics, Romantic and Victorian poetry, Shakespeare, biographies of people dead and alive, translated works of Goethe, Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, Nietzsche, Leo Tolstoy, Nikolai Gogol even The Communist Manifesto. I read to satisfy my curiosity, to increase my knowledge and understanding about the world beyond myself, my existence and my space. I read to become a better writer.
For someone like me who was not afforded the opportunity to ‘travel the world’ (not even North America), reading was my way of ‘traveling’ until I get to travel. Since becoming an adult with responsibilities other than myself (home, husband, children, work), I realized that to sit in a corner or in the comfort of your bed or garden and read for hours is one of the world’s greatest luxuries (same goes for writing). Since I’ve stopped reading voraciously, I feel a certain dullness have come over me. My recall of facts isn’t as sharp and anything I ‘learn’ now are from magazine articles and the news and that’s not enough to satisfy my curious mind.
I want to change this trend, so I will force myself to read at least one book a month and I will write my review of the book and post it under this page. This is one step to getting myself back after being encumbered with so many other responsibilities.
